Love and Basketball (Spanish) [VHS]

Love and Basketball (Spanish) [VHS]Gina Prince-Bythewood, a former college athlete, puts a spin on this one-on-one tale of Love and Basketball. Sanaa Lathan (The Best Man) is the fiercely driven, hot-tempered Monica, a tomboy who gives her all for basketball. Omar Epps (The Mod Squad) is Quincy, an NBA player's son who has pro dreams of his own. Next-door neighbors since first grade, they start as rivals (she flabbergasts the boy by outplaying him in a game of driveway pickup) and age into best friends and lovers. The romantic complications follow a familiar game plan, but the film throws a fascinating spotlight onto the contrast between men's and women's basketball. While Quincy plays college ball on huge courts to cheering, sold-out crowds, we see Monica's sweat, tears, and sheer physical dedication in front of tiny audiences in small gyms and second-rate auditoriums.

The story is pointedly set in the late 1980s, years before the establishment of the WNBA, so Monica's prospects for pro ball lie exclusively in Europe, while Quincy steps into the pros at home. It's a pleasure to see a character as passionate and fully developed as Monica, and Lathan gives a fiery portrayal (she had never played ball before the film, but you'd never tell from her performance). Prince-Bythewood favors her struggle over Quincy's and opens our eyes to her unique challenges with a sharp, savvy contrast. Alfre Woodard costars as Monica's harping mom (always trying to get her to be more ladylike) and Dennis Haysbert is Quincy's philandering father. Hoops fan Spike Lee produced. --Sean Axmaker

Love & Basketball: Music From The Motion Picture

Love & Basketball: Music From The Motion PictureThe coming-of-age angle in the sports romance movie Love & Basketball is played up by this sharp soundtrack album. The music ranges from Al Green's eternal "Love and Happiness" to galvanizing late-'80s rap classics (Rob Base's "It Takes Two," MC Lyte's "Lyte as a Rock") to some of the best new-school R&B. Angie Stone takes Simply Red's calling card "Holding Back the Years" to church and then back to her softly lit pad, while alt hip-hoppers Black Eyed Peas team with Les Nubians for the atmospheric "Complete Beloved." The disc also boasts the welcome return of ex-Tony! Toni! Tone! frontman Raphael Saadiq with his new partners Dawn Robinson (formerly of En Vogue) and one-time Tribe Called Quest member Ali Shaheed Muhammad in the band Lucy Pearl. Their "Dance Tonight" is a spirited jam that no doubt plays well in the movie--and definitely does out of it. --Rickey Wright

Husbands (Extended Cut)

Husbands (Extended Cut)Three real-life buddies (John Cassavetes, Peter Falk, and Ben Gazzara) team up to play three pals whose lives suffer a shock wave when a fourth friend drops dead. After the funeral, the three friends, feeling death's hot breath on their own necks, take off on a weekend-long debauch, with way too much drinking and loose women. But, in the process, they have lengthy heart-to-hearts about the nature of friendship, manhood, and marriage, among other things. As strong an example of Cassavetes's improvisational art as any of his films, this film may test your patience with his indulgent treatment of actors, allowing them to explore their characters on film. Sometimes they come up empty, but more often, they find precious moments and revelations. And these three guys play off each other like long-time partners in a high-wire game of chicken in which they all emerge as winners. --Marshall Fine

Denim Diaries 1: 16 Going on 21

Product Description
After five months of sheer absolute craziness I was going back to being plain old background D.J. In photographs of course I'm always in the background...

But it turns out other folks have big plans for D.J. Like her coach. College scouts. All the town hoops fans. A certain Red Bend High School junior who's keen for romance and karaoke. Not to mention Brian Nelson, who she should not be thinking about! Who she is done with, thank you very much. But who keeps showing up anyway...

Amazon Exclusive: A Letter from Catherine Murdock

Dear Amazon Reader:

The Dairy Queen series began with a dream and ends with a pizza.

In late 2003, I had a dream about a girl playing football. As I'd been studying screenwriting for eight years, I immediately began to craft this idea into a script. Then, all too aware of my script failure rate, I decided to attempt a "practice novel" using everything I'd learned about character development, plotting, dialogue, and description. Today, I can offer aspiring authors this hard-earned advice: If you want to write halfway decent books, start by writing truly horrendous screenplays.

I set Dairy Queen in Wisconsin, as I have family there and so can visualize the landscape, and I laid it out as a traditional three-act script, the only story structure I knew. I never intended to write a second book--I really love the vagueness of Dairy Queenâ??s ending--but when the publisher asked if I had a sequel in me, what could I answer but "Yes"? I love The Off Season's ending as well, but readers (may I mention how utterly fantastic the fan mail is?) wanted more. So--boom--I found myself writing a third. All of a sudden I had a trilogy.

Given what I'd learned about college sports recruiting from the first two books, it seemed only natural to examine this in Front and Center, while of course continuing the saga of D.J. Schwenk's love life. So many stories have as their conflict "Will the hero(ine) get the scholarship? Will s/he get the love interest?" And of course you already know the answers on page 1. To me, a much more challenging story, both to read and to write, would be "Does she want a scholarship? And which love interest will be it be: the dreamboat who keeps breaking her heart, or the safe, fun guy who's not quite Mr. Right?" Call me old fashioned, but I like a little mystery in my narrative. Which is why I'm also not going to tell you how the pizza fits in. But it does. Really.

Sincerely,

Catherine Murdock

How to keep a woman - Love Her, maintain her and she tell what you Love Her

Woman, the fire of the universe. When you are born, the first woman that you experience is your mother, then nurse who delivered, so you immediately that see you women as those who will be always take care of you, sort your problems when things go wrong. When you grow up and go to school, that they begin as horrific wee girls, ignoring the ropes and pig tails that are essentially very annoying! You go to high school and school of disco and suddenly, the once tedious girl with pig tail is suddenly this creature that gives you the feelings you have never had before. Then, you play your first game of "KCB" (Kiss, Cuddle or both), while all your friends are trying to do step to get caught, you try to obtain supported as much as possible, by a certain girl (for both). The "first kiss" and I've been hooked a sense lips against lips, oh he felt as well. When you finally to quit school and get a job, will change things, encounter you the "old" woman. When you are young, there is something about a woman's most âgése that just makes you a little besotted by them. Here's a woman, double your age, and there is a possibility that you could kiss! Can you imagine being 16 and kissing a woman 36? Well, let me tell you that it is that you can take on the world! This world is shot to reality when her husband discovered! So that I try to say, this is the reason of boys have crushes on the old woman who is really all men want a woman who is as their MOM, like most women want a man like their father because it is the first member of the opposite sex that you just know and love and respect.

Woman and the complexity and beauty of their. East - this incredible step, the amount of time that a woman says that everything is working "", when you ask the what is the problem? You know something is it disturbs and don't want to guess, you want to learn all so that you can talk about and sorting together. But no, it has to develop into a full scale argument, then it tells you what it was! AH, complex and beautiful women. But lets face it even when they are angry and really agacé at home, women are always fantastic, especially are they angry because allow you to disable certain wind in bed! I mean, like the Green sage once said (Shrek) "best leave that, I always say" they get angry, you remain calm and they get so much more fâchées! Then when you do not get angry, they tell you to stop shouting, so when you get not angry, they get upset and you get angry that they tell you do step to shout. AH women, incredible creatures! They get enthusiastic inanimate objects, such as shoes, handbags and composent.Considérant, men get enthusiastic football, soccer, racing, basketball, half price lager, you know "emotional stuff".

To say that I find fascinating woman society. You can have better discussions with women, they see things differently, from a different perspective. The people that I liked most are women, my mom, Park (God bless the) and my fiancée. Yeah, I love my father, brother and grandads but if I still have a problem, usually the same as most men, I go to my mother. If you have a woman in your life and you want to keep sound, then make sure that tell you him you love her everyday life, at least once. Tell him that it seems wonderful and it is how beautiful. It will be argued the point because it has not raised any brand, but you it is beautiful always. Everyone now and again, buy flowers, chocolates or just a small token of your appreciation and love for her. After all, it is your Princess and must be treated as such.Listen to her, respect her point of view and its wishes, send him an email text or nice, because if she knows you believe on him, when you are with him and then it will still feel special when you are not there, and then she will think of you, and how you have thought of lui.Allez so do guys! make your wife feel extra special at least once a day.

A great American love story

A Great American Love Story

The year was 1932, the year air conditioning was invented and the Zippo lighter. Americans were in the throes of the Great Depression and many were out of work and standing in long bread lines. Times were tough.

The year 1932 would also mark the beginning of a great American love story that would last for 75 years and still be going strong as of this writing! This is not your typical love story, not by a long shot. But it is indeed a story filled with love, and comradeship, heartbreak, sacrifice, and sheer joy.

It is the story of three American men who have been best buddies since the ages of 12, and 13, when first they met and started playing sandlot baseball together. Little did they know at the time, that their new friendship would last throughout all their high school days, World War II, and continue to flourish throughout their lives, even though geographical locations would eventually separate them physically.

But true friendship survives distance and circumstances. These three men are living proof of that. They share a unique bond that most of us would envy. They are emotional doppelgangers of each other.

They started out in those prewar years, playing sports - varsity baseball, basketball and football, all of them excelling or lettering in one sport or another. This was their life. Life was good despite the times. They were young and all that mattered was sports and listening to, and dancing to, the sounds of the Big Bands.

Living in south New Jersey, it was only a hop, skip and a jump to the Jersey shore where they would go to the Steel Pier in Atlantic City to listen to Benny Goodman and other well known musicians. Sports, Big Band music and the three of them together. It just didn't get any better than this.

One of the men is my dad, Jack "6 for 6" Letzgus as we call him, having earned that monicker for getting a hit in 6 successive turns at bat (four singles and 2 triples). He played semi-professional ball, in one game even hitting three triples, tying a national record. Who knows what heights he would have achieved had it not been for the war. As his friend Ted Lewin said "Jack, the war interfered with our baseball careers." My dad was described as a husky third sacker, although later, years of suffering from a very bad duodenal ulcer would see his slender but well built body diminish to a mere 132 pounds on his 5'10" frame.

Our next door neighbor had commented that "Poor Jack is going downhill. I can see it each day. He won't be around long." If only she were alive today to see him a mere 2 ½ years away from his 90th birthday. She wouldn't believe it. I can't believe it either. He's even healthier today than he was in his twenties through his sixties. The adage "You can't keep a good man down" is apropos in this situation.

The school years were now coming to a close. They would graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden, New Jersey, in 1938. But one of the three is a bit younger than my dad and the other friend. His graduation year would be different...or at least it should have been.

Jim Dunn is the baby of the three, a mere 86 now compared to my dad's and Ted's 87 years. He had skipped a grade in elementary school and for some reason he would have graduated a half a year ahead of my dad and Ted. School calendars were a bit different back then and they had half years.

Jim wasn't going to graduate without his two best buddies though, so he did something that most people would not do. He purposely failed a grade so that he would be put back and graduate in 1938 along with my dad Jack, and Ted. Most kids are anxious to get out of school. Not Jim. He wasn't going anywhere without his pals. This is indeed a love story!

The three of them continued to pal around, play sports, earn a living and be happy, carefree young men. Then it happened. World War II. The Big One. This would be the first separation of these three dear friends.

Their colorful love story takes on a different hue now as members of the fair sex slowly steal into their lives.

Jim went into the Navy, positioned off the coast of Normandy on the USS Texas during the D-Day invasion. He also served in the Pacific. Jim had met his future wife, Dorothy, in the little town in which they all grew up, aptly named Fairview. It wasn't long before sports took somewhat of a backseat to the feminine charms of Dorothy. They soon would marry.

Ted had also been distracted from all things sports as he matured into his older teens. He had met a lovely young girl named Ruth and they married before Ted joined the Merchant Marine. The years would take him around the world but his heart was always back in Fairview with the lovely Ruth.

My dad, Jack, received the Greetings from Uncle Sam and soon found himself drafted into the US Army, stationed in Texas and Louisiana before being shipped out to what was supposed to be duty in the Philippines. Fate stepped in, however, and steered the ship and his life in a much different direction.

The Japanese had attacked the Philippines so my dad's ship was diverted to Australia where he would soon win a marital victory, not necessarily a martial one. There, in Melbourne, Australia, he met the love of his life, my mother, the great Australian beauty, and dancer, Iris Robertson.

The times being uncertain, as they are during war years with no one knowing what would happen in this unstable world, whirlwind courtships, and marriages were not uncommon. Within four months of meeting, my mother and father married.

During these years, the best buddies were settling down with their wives and the children started arriving.

I was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. My dad was sent to Hollandia, New Guinea, and after a long time, was shipped back home to the US, where my mother and I joined him 8 months later. He had been away from home for almost 5 years, a sacrifice hard to imagine today.

Jim and his wife had four children and relocated to Arizona precipitated by the poor health of their middle daughter who suffered from severe asthma. The dry, desert heat would help her, they reasoned, and off they went - another rent in the rich tapestry of the three friends' lives, but a necessary one.

Meantime, enhancing the love story, Ted and his wife Ruth had three children, all boys whom they named Jack, Jim and Ted! Ted, Ruth and boys moved to California, motivated by a wonderful job opportunity for Ted. He landed a job with Shiley Corporation where he invented the blood oxygenator used in cardiac surgery. Years later he would be named California Inventor of the Year.

With Jack still living in New Jersey, Jim and family in Arizona, and Ted and family in California, the visits were not as often now as any of them wanted. They stayed in touch though by telephone and letters and the occasional visit. How wonderful it would have been for them had they been able to avail themselves of the computer technology with webcams of today, but none of them can be persuaded to try it.

My parents' marriage would last for 50+ years, ending only because of the devastating disease of Supranuclear Palsy that would claim my mother's life and make my dad the first widower of the three friends, a most unwanted distinction.

Sadly, Jim's wife, Dorothy was the next of the wives to pass away, she of cancer, after 50+ years of marriage.

It wasn't long before Ted would join their ranks of widower, when his wife of 50+ years, Ruth, passed away a few hours before 9/11.

The three best buddies were now widowers and living far apart from one another. How strange that all three of them would outlive their beloved wives when statistically women outlive men. After Ted's wife passed away, Jim remarked how incredible it would be if all three of them could share a house together and share the rest of their lives together, to be close together again, to play a little ball together in their twilight years. But life happens and we all must make the most of what we have left.

Jim now spends his time running marathons and invariably comes home with a gold medal. So far, he's won 9 of them. He quips that there aren't many 86-year-olds to compete with him. Ted spends his days golfing, and reading, and enjoying the California lifestyle. My dad, Jack, who is as witty and humorous as he ever was, spends his time writing poems and limericks and recently had a short story that he had written during the war, bound and printed. These men are not going gently into that good night. They are an inspiration to all who know them.

Jim visits Ted in California from time to time. Before their wives passed away, Jim and Ted and wives visited my dad and mother in Florida where they had relocated years before. It was a wonderful reunion. Their conversation was centered mainly around, of course, sports! No one knew it at the time but this would probably be the last time the three best pals would be together.

My dad hates to fly. So the three of them confine their contact to phone calls and letters. But what wonderful phone calls they are. They can spend hours on the phone talking about "the good old days" of their youth, their sports accomplishments and wonderful reminiscences of 75 years of profound friendship, of three lives well lived, and well loved. The love story that began all those years ago continues, and may it continue for many more years for these three remarkable gentlemen. I love them all!

Trapped. Without options. Lacking self-empowerment. Enslaved by addiction.

Have you ever found yourself in those or similar circumstances? Many people have, at one time in their lives or another, in varying degrees. Harmony Dust did. What makes Harmony's story fascinating is how she came to recognize the situations and people in her life who were detracting from, rather than enhancing, her well-being, and developed the inner strength to walk away from those destructive circumstances. She became a self-actualized, well-educated, and successful woman who is now telling her story with the hope that it will inspire others.

Synopsis:

Harmony is 19 years old, living in the Los Angeles area, attending college, and addicted to an abusive, opportunistic relationship with a man who neither values nor respects her. Deserted altogether by her father and lacking consistent support or nurturing from her mother, Harmony grew up bouncing from one injurious relationship to another. She endured physical, sexual, and emotional battering. She felt that there was "something really wrong with me that I kept attracting those situations again and again." To survive, she learned to block out her emotions, disconnecting her heart and head, because deep inside the thing she feared most was being abandoned... yet again.

She clings to Derrick, a young man she has known for several years. Determined to complete her education and become a child psychologist, Harmony finds herself $35,000 in debt as a result of her quest to provide for Derrick, who can't be bothered with gainful employment. Rather, he spends his days playing basketball while she supports him in order to keep him in her life. Harmony even agrees to move into Derrick's mother's house to care for her after she suffers a stroke. But when his mother is placed in a care home, they lose the right to remain in the woman's house, so Harmony again takes on the burden of supporting herself and the shiftless Derrick. He disappears for days with her car... and their female next-door neighbor. So desperate is Harmony for the rare bit of affection or regard she receives from Derrick that she even takes in the young woman when she learns that the former neighbor is pregnant with Derrick's baby. She sleeps on the couch in the living room of the apartment for which she pays rent, while Derrick and his burgeoning family occupy the bedroom.

A classmate suggests that Harmony can increase her income exponentially by becoming an exotic dancer. At first resistant, she eventually succumbs to her classmate's pressuring. Harmony consults with one of her psychology professors, worried that if she becomes a stripper, it might prohibit her from achieving her ultimate career goal. Instead of dissuading her, the professor tells her, "Well, you certainly don't have to put it on your resume." She promises herself that she will work in the strip club for two months only -- just long enough to earn the money she needs to pay off her debts. Adept at compartmentalizing her emotions, it is "Monique" -- as she christens herself when she awkwardly takes the stage for the first time -- who dances for the club's male customers each night in order to continue supporting herself and Derrick, continue her studies, and become financially independent. When "Monique" is not dancing, Harmony continues hoping against hope that Derrick will eventually love and respect her.

What Harmony comes to realize, of course, is that she will never be capable of accepting love or respect from anyone else until she first learns how to genuinely love and respect herself. A friend invites Harmony to attend a church service. "I didn't want to go because I was afraid of being judged," Harmony relates. To her surprise, Harmony finds the congregation warm, welcoming, and decidedly different from the stereotypical church assembly she expected to encounter. "I felt like I was home." When she asks the club's management to rearrange her work schedule so that she can continue attending services each week, Harmony discovers that believers can be found in very unexpected places. Over time, the still, small voice inside Harmony grows louder and more insistent, demanding that she face the gnawing realization that the life she is leading is diametrically at odds with her flourishing self-esteem and sense of self-worth.

At last, she takes a giant and literal leap of faith. One night, as the strains of "Purple Rain" by Prince begin, she feels naked for the first time. Three years earlier, she had auditioned by dancing to that same song. She goes straight to the manager and announces that she is finished. Over the protests of her fellow employees -- "No one quits. Everyone comes back. You'll be back," they tell her -- she sells all of her costumes to the other dancers, walks out of the club for the last time, and finally extricates herself from her codependent relationship with Derrick.

Harmony Dust completed her education and fulfilled her dreams. Today she holds a Master of Arts degree in Social Welfare from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), is a happily married mother, and leads Treasures, an organization that helps other women free themselves from the sex industry by discovering their true worth and value.

Review:

When a reviewer gushes, "You will want to get a copy for every person you know... Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down," as did Holly Wagner, author and founder of GodChicks, the rebellious contrarian inside me rises to the challenge. "Oh, yeah? We'll see about that," I thought to myself. Well, in the case of Scars and Stilettos, we certainly did see about that. Just as Wagner predicted, I had a great deal of trouble putting Scars and Stilettos down before I reached the last, satisfying page. "This is a book about overcoming. You don't have to spend time working in a strip club to relate to it," Harmony says. And she is correct.

The juxtaposition of Harmony -- the intelligent, articulate, attractive young woman who dreams of being a child psychologist, but is, despite all of her talents and abilities, so desperate for love and a sense of belonging that she clings to a worthless opportunist like Derrick -- against her fabricated alter-ego, "Monique," is a compelling story. "Monique" is a tough, emotionally detached, goal-driven entrepreneur, but Harmony's gritty true-life tale bears little resemblance to Hollywood's typical treatment of this "bad girl goes straight" genre, Pretty Woman being the prime and most notorious example.

Indeed, there is nothing glamorous or appealing about the strip club in which "Monique" performs, much less the style of dance she employs to earn tips from her customers. "Monique" is actually luckier than most of the other strippers, some of whom prostitute themselves. Some are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, and some never manage to extricate themselves from the business, continuing to dance for decades once they become accustomed to the cash flow and realize that they have no other marketable skills with which to earn even a fracture of the income they are used to generating. Harmony infuses detailed descriptions of her surroundings, fellow dancers, and customers that are so vivid the reader is pulled right into that club with her -- you can practically smell the smoke and hear the bass line emanating from the smarmy DJ's equipment as he asks "Monique" what song she wants to dance to on any given evening.

And some of the incidents she relates are heart-breaking. Especially touching are tales about two of her customers: A man she is shocked and disappointed to find at the club, and another so special that he was the one and only customer with whom she ever let down her emotional guard. Still, the inevitable limitations of their sweet and tender relationship cause Harmony much anguish. She learns a great deal from their encounters and the experience propels her journey of self-discovery forward. (I couldn't help wondering if that gentleman might not have been an angel dispatched to assist Harmony.)

Harmony's account of her childhood makes for particularly difficult reading. Even though it is apparent that she has omitted much of the harsh minutiae, the events she relates, including a brutal rape, are harrowing. She shares only sketchy information about her family members and the environment in which she grew up, and some aspects of her fractured familial relationships are puzzling, especially concerning her grandmother. Why, for instance, did she not raise Harmony herself when it was apparent that Harmony's mother could provide neither adequate emotional nor financial support for her daughter? No cogent answer is provided. And Harmony apparently forgave her absent father, although she never elucidates how their relationship progressed from him refusing, at a point when she desperately needed it, to provide her shelter... to her visiting him with her grandmother at his home in Washington a few years later. Further explanation would have been helpful to a complete understanding of Harmony's journey. Ultimately, however, the omission of those salient points does not detract from the book's impact.

The focus of Harmony's story is, of course, her gradual metamorphosis from her double life as Harmony/"Monique" to the self-confident woman who began a ministry simply by placing notes of encouragement on the windshields of cars in the parking lot of the strip club where she used to perform. Harmony's description of her slow, steady progression into a life of faith and the incremental growth of her courage, marked by seemingly chance encounters with other believers in the most unexpected surroundings and circumstances, rings convincingly true. Hers was no sudden conversion into a life of church-going and proselytizing. Rather, she credibly describes her evolution from a woman so disconnected from her own emotions that she could remove all of her clothing to stand nude in front of a crowd of groping strangers, yet not feel naked... to a woman who becomes progressively attuned to that "still, small voice" emanating from deep in her soul. For that reason, when she finally describes the moment when she knew she could never perform another exotic dance, as well as the subsequent scene in the dressing room during which she auctions off her costumes to the other dancers, she evokes chills and "Alleluias!"

Harmony believed that if she broke up with Derrick, she would find herself with another man just like him. So she tried desperately to hold onto and change him. Harmony's emancipation from her career as a dancer also releases her from her emotional slavery to Derrick and her false hopes about his character and their future together. "It was like a yoke being lifted."

"Hello?" His deep voice was slow and lingering; so unsuspecting.... "I'm just calling to let you know that I can't have you in my life any more, and from now on I will no longer be supporting you financially." I spoke with more confidence than I knew I had.... "What? I don't understand," he stammered.... "You con't have to understand. You just have to accept it. Please don't try to call me," I replied calmly, as though I had rehearsed it a thousand times. In actuality the words just came to me. "I have to go." And with that I hung up the phone, and with it an era of my life....

Harmony explains how she felt immediately after making the call: "That's it. After seven years, a two-minute phone call was all it took to end it. And I am alive. The world has not stopped for this moment. Life goes one. My life will go on.... He was gone from me, and I was still very much alive."

Anyone who has been in or cares about someone in a codependent relationship can appreciate how monumental Harmony's break with Derrick -- seven years in the making -- truly was. The words were so deceptively simple, uttered so quickly. But it took her all those years -- and the development of a sustaining belief and faith in something larger than herself -- to find the courage to say them.

To her credit, Harmony does not foist blame for her circumstances or her choices on anyone else, even though, as a parent, I found plenty of fault with her mother, father, and grandmother. Perhaps that is why she declined to reveal some aspects of her family history and relationships: She does not wish to be perceived as whiny or attempting to elicit sympathy from her readers. So, ultimately, hers is also a story of forgiveness, subtly but genuinely displayed in her actions.

Harmony's message? If the God she professes could find her in a seedy Los Angeles strip club and lead her out of her despair and self-loathing to the life she now leads, redemption from a life of hopelessness is possible for anyone else who seeks it. That's powerful testimony, impressively conveyed in a straight-forward, but not preachy manner. To her credit, Harmony peppers her narrative with but a few key Bible verses and describes her all-important baptism day in a direct manner, explaining that while the pastor prayed for her, she was "filled with a peace I have never known, awake or asleep." (Christians, of course, recognize "the peace that passes understanding," a euphoric sense of well-being that all-too-often eludes us as we focus on our everyday responsibilities.)

Refreshingly absent from Scars and Stilettos are the unconvincingly effusive, overwrought professions of belief and overt attempts to convert the reader to the author's belief system that frequently punctuate autobiographies of this sort. Less is definitely more. Because of her wisely restrained writing style, the faith that Harmony believes empowers her to do all things through Him who gives her strength takes center stage and enables Harmony to achieve her goal: Scars and Stilettos is indeed inspiring and uplifting.

Today, Harmony is devoted to helping other women escape the sex industry. Steeped in grace, Harmony remembers "how alone and desperate I felt." So when she sees women living in situations similar to those from which she escaped, she says, "I have to do something to reach them and tell them that there's hope." To learn more about Harmony's work, visit Treasures

I highly recommend Scars and Stilettos.

How to choose bathroom and handles cabinet buttons

We have all heard the old adage that matter most the small things in life. This proverb can be applied to almost anything in life, including your projects at home. Every detail, up to the last inch square room must be meticulously planned in advance. Skimming on fine points and focus solely on presentation can turn what was planned to be a room perfect in a major disaster. In the bathroom renovation, therefore, invest time and effort in the choice of the best bathroom cabinets of buttons.

Make a color screen

I Love tourism Paris - the 15th arrondissement

The 15th arrondissement is located southwest of Paris on the left bank of the river Seine. Its area is slightly greater than 3.2 square kilometers (a little more 8.5 km2). It is the most populous of the 20 arrondissements, weighing in at over two hundred twenty five thousand residents and provides almost one hundred and fifty thousand jobs.

Gare Montparnasse is one of the big six Parisian train stations. First, it opened in 1840 and has been developed only a few years later. In 1895, a runaway train was through a wall of two feet (60 cm), has left the scene and spilled on thirty metres (10) streets below.Train has completed this wild tour on his nose, as shown on the cover of the album Lean on this product by the rock band hard m. Big.Aucun passengers were killed in this great journey, but many were injured and a sector was killed.

August 25, 1944, Paris, military Governor German General von Choltitz, transferred to the General old Philippe Leclerc station Montparnasse.Heureusement enough Cholitz von disobeyed direct of Adolf Hitler to destroy the city as dramatized in the film Franco-American 1966 command is Paris burning? This film has been disappointing to ticketing, perhaps because it was difficult for those who doesn't know the supporters and outs of the French resistance.

Twenty-five years later this historic station was destroyed and replaced by the Montparnasse tower (Tour Montparnasse) top time strengthening Europe .Deux years after its construction skyscrapers were banned in the centre of Paris, but... You remember joke of Guy de Maupassant on the Eiffel Tower restaurant (otherwise, see our article on article seven District)? They are the same joke on the Tour Montparnasse.

In 1995, the French urban climber Alain "Spiderman" Robert is mounted at the top of the building with only his hands skies and feet and without any kind of safety devices. (Try this childhood.)He began his career at the age of twelve years where it has been accidentally locked in eighth floor apartment of the famille.Alain continued his business in the French Alps learning. It has vertigo, dizziness, type two accidents. And Yes, it has also the Eiffel Tower as well as of many other skyscrapers around the world. For a change of pace there is mounted the Golden Gate Bridge.

The hive (the Beehive) is a strange aspect three storey circular structure resembling a huge hive more human living quarters. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel as a temporary wine for the universal exhibition of 1900 (Expo) Rotunda .you know what another temporary building, he designed. The French sculptor Alfred Boucher had the building dismantled and re-erected as artist inexpensive studios who drew the usual group of hangers - it thus. Can you imagine living in Paris, surrounded by artists and almost no rent to pay? Course la Ruche wasn't the Champs Elysées, but not everyone idea of Paris is to Champs Elysées.It was not far from a famous canteen described in our article on the fourteenth district Companion.

Its former resident list includes many of the greatest painters and artists of the beginning of the 20th century. This historical complex has come close to "upgrading" in the early 1970s, but was saved and is still used as art studios.uniquement outdoors is available for general viewing and you should really stop. The Museum of Montparnasse (Museum of Montparnasse station) on the site of the former canteen contains quite a collection of hive of glory days. This is a little more border in the 14th arrondissement.

Front de Seine (also known as the Beaugrenelle) is a development joint commercial and residential, tours on the River complex Seine.Le comprises approximately one hundred-twenty three feet (one hundred - meter) building constructed around to an esplanade high scattered with frescos that are visible in the upper floors. I know where I would rather live.

Aquaboulevard is park recreation-more great interior of aquatic Europe .the water enthusiasts will find swimming pools, waves, and slides. The site has a center of fitness, tennis and squash courts. If you are not in a sport or that you have completed your training atmosphere there are seven restaurants and a cinema of fourteen - screen on the site. Enjoy yourself.

Giant sports (sports Palace) Palace hosts Games hockey and basketball as well as large scale musicals and concerts of rock. Don't confuse it with the Palais Omnisports of Paris in the district of twelfth on Paris Bercy. In view of the Parisian, traffic if you go to the wrong will probably miss you your show. This building of 1960 was used as a detention centre in the massacre at Paris in 1961 during the war of Algerian independence.

I have a confession to make.Until recently, I have the impression that Paris was home to a vineyard works still single, one out of this district.Live and learn. The village of Vaugirard was known for its wines, exported in 1453 to the end of the hundred years war. After 1786 when toll walls were built around Paris, the city residents crossed them Sunday and holidays to drink wine Vaugirard, eating strawberries and peas and dance to the sound of the violins, musettes and hautbois.Je remember OIE that laid the golden egg when I read that money grubbing winegrowers of Vaugirard replacement their wines with new hardware which gave many more wine, but a lower quality.Consumers were not fooled for a long time, and in 1810 Vaugirard saw its last vineyards. The last until 1985, when the vineyard Clos des Morillons in Georges Brassens Park was planted with seven hundred Pinot Noir vines. Each vineyard yields on average about 2.2 pounds (a kilo) grape in September or October. The following summer, you can enjoy wine, says good enough.

Of course, you want to be Paris without good French wine sampling and nourriture.Dans my article I Love French wine and food - A Bourgogne Aligoté I examined such wine and offered a menu of sample: start your second course with ham Persillé (ham in Aspic Parsleyed) .to enjoy Rable Lievre to Piron (bite of Hare with shallots and white wine) .Et as dessert engage yourself with foam in Chocolat (chocolate mousse) .your sommelier Parisian (wine steward) will be pleased to propose suitable wine to accompany each course.

Levi Reiss has the author or co-author of ten books on computers and the Internet, but for being honest, it would be rather simply correctly drink Italian, French or other wines, accompanied by food droite.Il teaches classes in French Ontario .the Community College computers knows that plans and is pleased that at the moment he can eat and drink what he wants, with modération.Son central website is www.wineinyourdiet.com devoted to health and nutritional wine aspects and its place in your program of poids.Son site loss Web World wine is www.theworldwidewine.com .visitez its other sites devoted to Italian wine, food and Italian journey Italian.
